Welcome to Sandpiper Arabians

- a small Purebred Arabian Stud

...originally based on Old English and Polish bloodlines...

...that has now moved from UK to New Zealand.

(See www.sandpiperarabians.co.uk for information about the animals and location before the move.)

Disappointment as Gazaalia made Top 5 but missed any Mare championship award.
She was praised by the judge but the result was justified as she was rather over-weight.

More disappointment followed as Rooh was beaten into second place in the Stallion Championship.
However, National Reserve Champion Stallion at age 4 years is not at all bad,
even though we had hoped that he might have copied his grand sire, Aazari,
who became British National Champion Stallion at age 4 years in 2002.

Sorry about lack of updates for past month or two but we have been very busy and there has not been enough time to make changes to this site regarding the house build.
Bryan was having to help with mucking out the stables due to Kaye's broken right wrist, which has since mended well!
That all happened at the South Island Championships when the 9 month old foal paniced and sent bystander Kaye sprawling.
Three horses were entered and we won four Championships (Stallion, Mare, Purebred and Supreme) and a Reserve (Youngstock).

We are now situated a few kilometers West of Christchurch near Rolleston on the South Island.

This general area is diametrically opposite the North West corner of Spain being approximately 43°30'S.

Note:
Kaye was a committee member of the AHS Wessex Regional Group in UK and has now become a member of the New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders Society and joined the committee of the Canterbury Arabian Horse Club (CAHC).

Bryan is the webmaster who authored (and still maintains) the Wessex Group's web site. He has also taken on similar duties for the CAHC.

The property is 20 acres (8 hectares) in area and almost square with many Blue Gum trees lining the perimeter.

There is also a slowly moving water race running across the front boundary and down one side, so we could claim to be a moated residence!

Our son, Roland, and his partner, Kylie, have now bought half of the sub-divided property (including the existing house) allowing Bryan and Kaye to concentrate on building their new house on the other half, at No 414 Kerrs Road (mail box erected for New Year 2012 but severed the underground telephone cable!).

Good news! Antique furniture which was damaged by the first quake in September was sent for repair in the middle of Christchurch one week before the second major quake in February. We thought that the building housing the repairers had collapsed because we were unable to get a reply from their telephone number but all is well and the repairers have not been allowed back into their premises in the middle of the Red Zone, other than to collect urgent papers.
The furniture may yet get repaired.

Following the NZAHBS AGM Sat 7/May/2011 in Christchurch, we were the first stud to be visited Sun morning - at 08:20. There was close to an inch of rain the previous day but the sun came out and the ground was very soft but did not cut up too much.
